Sheer khurma is on the dessert table of our Weekend Premium Buffet at Taier Al Monal, opposite Nesto Hypermarket in Abu Shagara, Sharjah, every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 PM to midnight, at AED 65 for adults and AED 33 for children. It sits alongside Monal special kheer, firni, shahi tukra, umm ali and gulab jamun. If you want kheer on any day, it is AED 8 à la carte.
What is sheer khurma?
Sheer khurma means milk with dates in Persian. Fine vermicelli is toasted in ghee, then simmered in sweetened milk with chopped dates, and finished with pistachio, almond and often cardamom. It is the dessert Pakistani and Indian Muslim families make on Eid morning, served warm or cold.
Sheer khurma vs kheer vs seviyan
- Sheer khurma: vermicelli in milk with dates and nuts, thinner and richer. The Eid dessert.
- Kheer: rice slow-cooked in milk until thick and creamy. Everyday and festive. AED 8 on our menu.
- Seviyan: vermicelli too, either in milk like a lighter sheer khurma, or dry, fried with sugar and ghee.
- Firni: ground rice set in milk, smooth and served cold, often in clay bowls.
Where to eat sheer khurma near you
Sheer khurma is rarely on a restaurant's à la carte menu, because it is a festival dish. The easiest way to eat it in Sharjah outside Eid is a buffet that includes it. Ours is the Weekend Premium Buffet, Saturday and Sunday. For Eid itself, see our Eid buffet guide.
