Afghani mutton pulao at Taier Al Monal, opposite Nesto Hypermarket in Abu Shagara, Sharjah, is AED 28 à la carte, every day from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM. For a group, the Afghani Pulao Grand Platter adds a full chicken karahi, eight malai boti, four seekh kababs, naan and kheer for AED 135, enough for about five. Afghani pulao and Bannu beef pulao are also on the Weekend Premium Buffet.
What is Afghani pulao?
Afghani pulao, known in Afghanistan as Kabuli pulao, is rice cooked in the stock left from slow-cooking mutton, so every grain carries the meat's flavour. It is traditionally topped with sweet carrots and raisins. It is aromatic rather than hot, which makes it a favourite with families and anyone who finds biryani too spicy.
Afghani pulao vs biryani
- Pulao: rice cooked together with the meat stock in one pot. Milder, savoury, every grain flavoured evenly.
- Biryani: rice and spiced meat cooked separately, then layered and steamed. Spicier, with colour and texture changing through the layers.
- Choose pulao for mild and meaty, biryani for spice and aroma
Our biryani vs pulao guide goes deeper, and the best biryani in Sharjah post covers the other side.
